OBJECTIVES

B. A. S. I .C. S. FELLOWSHIP

Brothers & Sisters In Christ’s Service

MISSION

To be an authentic expression of the Body of Christ, growing and functioning in maturity in Christ, and effective ministry to the world because of that maturity.

VISION OBJECTIVES

Where there is no vision (revelation), the people are unrestrained (perish), but happy is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18

It has been said “He that has vision alone is a dreamer. He that has a commitment to task alone is a worker. He who has vision and task, and is committed to both, is a conquerer and moves in effective service to his Lord and Master.”  To have a vision, a revelation of what God desires, and a picture of what it is to be like is indeed a wonderful thing. However a picture does not drop into place on a canvas. It takes individual brush strokes, which the artist plans and performs with a plan. So vision without specific goals and plans, makes us dreamers with our head in the clouds and feet off the ground. On the other hand to have only objective task without understanding purpose results in drudgery and soon makes us weary in the work and discipline. If we are to be committed to serving Him and His purposes, and move in effective ministry, we must have both vision and task/plans/program.

Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. Acts 3:19-21

Over the age of the Church the Lord has been faithful to send times of refreshing (revival, vital movements). It is our conviction that we are now in the period of the restoration of all things spoken of in Acts 3:21. This is an exciting time when the Lord is restoring crucial ministries and understanding to the Church and empowering the Church to exhibit “the fullness of Him who fills all in all”. This is a glorious time to be a part of the purposes of God. Note that the heavens must receive (retain) the Lord Jesus until this time, and that the times of restoration don’t have to be completed for His return. We just must be in that restoration period. This is exciting for, if we are indeed in these times, His return is imminent.

“However when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8 )

Will He find those who are persistently seeking Him and seeking to do what He has called them to do and to be all He has called them to be? May we be those who wear Him out with our seeking, as the woman of Luke 18 did the judge. “The world has yet to see what God will do with a man that is fully and wholly consecrated (devoted) to the Holy Spirit (the Lord).” Henry Varley said this to his friend D.L. Moody. We desire to be an expression of the church where each individual member of the body is wholly devoted to the Lord.

We recognize that God is looking for a people that will praise, worship, and glorify Him, a people with whom He can be comfortable. We desire to be such a people.

  1. We will assist each person in knowing and worshiping the Lord our God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. Once one is in saving relationship with Him and understanding His salvation is solely by grace, we will assist and facilitate growing in maturity and in understanding of each ones gifts and calling through personal discipleship, teaching, training and offering ministry opportunities and release. Our purpose will be to present every man complete in Christ.
  2. Local elders will exercise leadership in co-equal plurality under the Headship of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving oversight to the various ministries and administration of the church. We confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and the Head of His Body.
  3. We will embrace, recognize, release and support the ministry gifts of Eph. 4:11-12 (apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors, and teachers) to function in our body for “the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry”.
  4. We will embrace the biblical principles of discipleship, evangelism and mission outreach.
    • DISCIPLESHIP will be focused on growth in Christ and maturity in Him. Teaching and training will be offered in various foundational elements of the faith, ministry, and practical Christian living. One on one mentoring and/or goal-oriented discipleship relationships will also be encouraged. We will be committed to seeing that each one is cared for and encouraged to, in turn, make other disciples themselves.
    • EVANGELISM will be a priority. Each believer will be trained to handle the gospel message with confidence. Opportunity for servant/friendship evangelism will be offered and each believer will be strongly encouraged to take part in reaching their relatives, neighbors, work associates, friends and all those who are perishing. At least twice per year special programs of evangelism outreach will be designed and implemented and participation strongly encouraged.
    • MISSION outreach will start in our backyard. The world comes to America to be educated and for business. We will make concerted efforts to reach those who come from foreign lands and cultures, so they take more than education or money back to their indigenous lands. We will also, of course, support world mission efforts with finances and through seeking to send, as He gives opportunity, those with ministry gifts and calling where needed to build the Church in other lands.
  5. We will assist one another in discovering, developing, and deploying spiritual gifts for the edification of the Body. This will be done through small group interaction and larger corporate gathering worship experience. The Elders will give oversight for needed order and give any needed correction.
  6. Worship gatherings and small groups will be open and participatory in nature. Those committed to our fellowship will be encouraged to pray about each meeting and develop sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. They will be trained to develop an ear to hear and a heart to obey. They will come to gatherings prepared to be stewards of the gifts entrusted to them or to move in gifting as the Spirit moves upon the Body.
  7. We will walk in committed covenant relationships of love, encouragement and ministry to one another. We will diligently pursue resolution of conflict in relationships and reconciliation of offense or hurt according to the scriptures.
  8. We will demonstrate our love for the Lord Jesus by intentional ministry to the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned, the poor and those in need (Mt. 25:32).
  9. We will make it our goal to provide spiritually and practically for single parents, widows and unwed mothers, and others in need.
  10. We will train and encourage each one to be financially free, and a faithful steward of God’s resources. We will strongly encourage generous giving to support ministry, the offering for needy believers and ministries, and gifts to the poor.
  11. We will motivate one another to love and good works, and look for ways to practically and creatively serve one another. We will encourage one another and be challenged to outdo each other in showing honor to the Lord, elders, parents, and the aged.
  12. We will recognize and support the family as God’s primary building block institution. We will encourage family life in our approach to marriage, role concepts, parenting, sexuality, and conflict resolution.
  13. We will be diligent to meet the needs of singles giving instruction relating to the opposite sex, mate selection, vocations, developing values and communication skills, and dealing with self image and insecurity issues.
  14. We will instruct each one in practical principles for finding and fulfilling God’s unique will and purpose for their life. We will give instruction to overcoming temptation and sin and living a victorious and overcoming life in Christ.
  15. We will offer prophetic and biblical counseling for those in crisis, and preventative counseling of various kinds to avoid the pitfalls of living in a neo-pagan culture.
  16. Our long-range focus will be to impact our region by building up one expression of BASICS Fellowship in one part of our city, and then planting others, eventually at the 4 points of the compass in the Raleigh Durham area. Each expression of BASICS Fellowship will serve as a hub for several small-group home gatherings where believers will build committed relationships and begin to function in Spiritual gifts and Body ministry, receive training, and personal care.
  17. We will be committed to identifying and training men and women for servant leadership in these small groups, BASICS Fellowship, and in the world. We will also encourage and enable those called to function as ministry gifts (apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors, and teachers) to the Church.
  18. We will encourage and inspire excellence in all we endeavor to accomplish in the Lord. We will particularly encourage excellence in the communicative arts (music, dance, drama, and art) as a way to share the message of Christ and bring honor and glory to Him. We will embrace the simplicity of the Gospel, while embracing, under His leading, state of the art technology where appropriate to our ministry. We will also, as He leads and provides, use modern marketing avenues and media for reaching our city and region to invite those in need to “taste and see that the Lord is good”.
  19. The army of God is strongest on its knees. We will encourage intercessors before the Lord to undergird our work, worship, mission and evangelism efforts in His will and purpose.
  20. We look toward a time when the Lord will raise up those in our midst that would be before the Lord day and night (24/7) in prayer and worship.
  21. We recognize our calling to be an expression (a part) of the Body of Christ. We will work to instigate and participate in events and programs that draw the Church together in unity across our region to edify the Church and/or impact those in the world for Christ.
